The Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy 2030 aims to reduce 30 percent of carbon emissions by the end of 2030

Dubai has reduced its carbon emissions by 21 percent in 2021, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy said on Monday.

Increasing share of solar energy in the emirate’s power mix, as well has enhancing operational efficiencies in factories and other industrial facilities, contributed greatly to the reduction, the council said.

“The development and implementation of the existing programmes and projects had a positive and tangible impact, reflected in the carbon emission reduction rates over the past 10 years,” Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the council’s vice chairman, said in a statement.

The achievement was announced in a council meeting, where top officials discussed the results of the Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy 2030, which aims to reduce 30 percent of carbon emissions by the end of 2030.

The Dubai strategy is part of a wider net zero initiative by the UAE, where several carbon emission reduction targets by 2050 have been identified.
