Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed says the UAE’s launch in 2022 ‘will be great’ after chairing first Cabinet meeting of the year
The UAE Cabinet on Friday adopted executive regulations to guarantee the rights of workers as the country seeks to create the “best, most flexible and diversified business environment”.
In a series of tweets, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai shared details of the first meeting of the Council of Ministers at Expo 2020’s UAE pavilion.
“Our start is promising and our launch in 2022 will be great, God willing,” he said.
He added in another tweet: “Today, we have adopted the executive regulations for labour relations in the country to guarantee rights, raise efficiency and regulate new forms of work such as freelance, flexible, temporary work, golden residency holders and others.”
He said the UAE now has 12 types of work permits under new laws.
He said the Cabinet’s first decision of 2022 was to start implementing the plan to change the methodology of the federal government’s work with “more transformational projects… and faster… and full focus on creating the most active and better economy in the world”.
Changes, to be announced soon, include granting ministries greater powers with more financial flexibility and shorter strategic cycles, plus national priorities based on the 50 principles adopted by the UAE President for the next 50 years.
In Friday session, the Cabinet also approved new regulations and systems for preserving industrial property and inventions related to the defence industries and mechanisms for accelerating patent registration.
“The diversification of our economy requires the diversity and breadth of our legislation, and we are legislatively ready for a different and upcoming economic stage,” said Sheikh Mohammed in another tweet.
The Cabinet also adopted a rapid digital procurement policy for the government, a new committee for smart learning in schools and 13 agreements to encourage investment and avoid double taxation.
In another move, the Cabinet approved the issuance of a new law for sports in the country, a law that comprehensively regulates the sports movement, including sports councils, federations, Olympic committees, and others.
